Test the reviewer journey, not just file launch
A valid preview lets the intended dealer reviewer locate the right module, understand controls, hear and read essential information, complete review and report a problem. Playback alone is not sufficient evidence.
The package launches on a technician’s laptop, but captions are clipped, audio is too quiet in the training bay and a security policy blocks one module. A structured review on representative devices exposes these issues before hundreds of packages are shipped.
Run a verifiable release workflow
- 01Select devices and user accounts that match the real dealer baseline.
- 02Test launch, navigation, seeking, audio, image quality and every included document.
- 03Verify captions, transcripts and other required accessibility support.
- 04Repeat the test without administrator privileges or editing software.
- 05Log friction, severity, workaround and release decision.
Leave a record another coordinator can follow
Keep a device matrix with operating system, policy profile, hardware, player, package version, accessibility checks, result, defect owner and retest date.
Pause and review when
- Testing occurs only on the package author’s workstation.
- Captions exist in the master but are absent or unusable in the distributed version.
- Reviewers need an undocumented administrator step or internet connection.
A technical restriction is not complete control
Do not promise screen-capture prevention, web DRM or support for every format/device. Test only the workflow you intend to claim, preserve unrestricted authorized masters separately, and pair technology with rights, custody, versioning and support.
Resolve these before release
Why test multiple devices if the format is supported?
Support statements cannot reproduce every codec, policy, hardware and user-permission combination. Test the combinations you intend to claim.
Do captions need review after packaging?
Yes. Verify that synchronized captions and other required alternatives remain available in the actual reviewer experience.
